Procrastination - Testimonial

"A session of hypnotherapy with Elaine will be an experience you will want to repeat.
Calming, relaxing, refreshing are some of the words that come to mind when I think of my own
experiences of hypnosis with Elaine at the helm.   You will be in good hands, confident that the session
is being handled by somebody who is passionate about her field, and who cannot tolerate anything less
than excellence and efficiency.  She will work with you to achieve success.   I don’t know anyone with
more enthusiasm or knowledge about her subject than Elaine.   Don’t hesitate. You will be delighted.”

Examination Anxiety - Testimonial

"I have suffered from anxiety for many years and was studying for an important math exam.
Elaine taught me self-hypnosis which enabled me to stay calm and focused during the exam.  The
self-hypnosis and relaxation exercises not only helped me pass the exam with flying colours, but to
cope with the day-to-day stresses of my job and university courses.  It will definitely serve me well
now that I'm in teacher's college.  I highly recommend Elaine to everyone!"   Robyn, Kitchener

Fear of Small Spaces - Testimonial

" I was skeptical of trying hypnosis again.  However, within the last 9 months that I have been coached
by Elaine Murphy I have achieved numerous successes with dealing with my claustrophobia and my
anxiety.  Moreover, my quality of life has greatly improved.

I have moved from a reactive lifestyle to a more serene state of mind where I can now stop and think
and have positive control in my life. I am now able to enter small or crowded spaces without reacting.
Something I couldn't do a year ago.  My anxiety level has dropped to a much more manageable state.
Through hypnosis and visualization, I have been able to achieve a relaxed and calm state of mind.
I have learned to live in the moment and not stress the small stuff so much. Through my sessions with
Elaine I have become empowered.  Thank you Elaine for your continuous support and for all your help!"

How I Quit Smoking - Testimonial

"In 2010, I came from Vancouver to visit family in Kitchener and had been a smoker for over 40 years.  I had no plan to give up the habit, but Elaine, an old   family friend had just graduated as a hypnotist and wanted to try out a new stop-smoking program she had created. Surprisingly, I don't remember much of the session now, but I am very happy to say I stopped smoking immediately
without any withdrawal symptoms.  It was as though  I had never smoked.  Amazing!"

THE PERFECT PAIR

Chop up 1/2 an avocado and 1/2 pink grapefruit.  This winning combination not only tastes great, but can actually slow down aging.  The antioxidant effects of lycopene-rich grapefruit reduce inflammation and prevent cell damage.  The avocado's healthy fats increase lycopene absorption making it more available for your body's use.
Health Canada Warning!  - Grapefruit juice can interact with more than 85 oral medications, over half of which lead to severe, even deadly consequences.  For details please visit Health Canada’s web site at:

ANYTIME FAST FOOD FANTASTIC!

Today I visited the Cambridge Farmers Market (just around the corner from my office at 19 Thorne Street) and met up with Jack, the owner of Romagnoli Farms  http://romagnolifarms.com.  With such an assortment of amazing fresh fruit, I paused to decide -- what shall I select, and how much can I carry?

I asked Jack if the strawberries were sweet, and he offered me some samples – something you can’t do in the big grocery stores.  The solution was simple – get them all!  They were fresh, delicious and amazing.  These delightful berries are packed with essential micronutrients, antioxidants, and fibre and are wonderfully fresh.  All the more reason to buy local!  Remember, farmers feed cities.

A short time later, the digestive juices were starting to churn and I got inspired to make this healthy, nutritious meal – something you can eat any time – breakfast, lunch or dinner!  Here’s the simple recipe.

ANYTIME FAST FOOD FANTASTIC
Prep time – under 5 minutes.

Ingredients:
2 handfuls or cups of fresh mixed greens
½ cup Jack’s fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries & raspberries)
½ cup low-fat cottage cheese
Sprinkled with crumbled walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds & 2 tsp. wheat germ

Dressing – totally unnecessary!

Calories:  Who counts?

TIP:  Fill a mason jar with the above ingredients to have a healthy, nutritious meal at work.  Start with the cottage cheese first, add the fruit, stack on the mixed greens, add your sprinkles.  When you are ready to eat, it’s easy to transfer it to a plate.  Tuck in and enjoy!  You will be completed satiated.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MEDITATION AND HYPNOSIS?

It’s a good question that I’m sometimes asked, and I’ll begin by saying there are similarities and differences.  Just as there are different types of meditation, there are different methods and techniques used in hypnosis.  For example, in some types of meditation, people may have a spiritual goal or the desire to reach a relaxed state, and others may use meditation to quiet the conscious mind.  Both meditation and hypnosis may focus on breathing and progressive relaxation techniques and visualizations, there may be similar destinations, but their routes can differ.  Generally, hypnosis is more goal-oriented.

Brain-imaging studies have shown that there are differences in parts of the brain when one is meditating and in some hypnotic states versus other hypnotic states, and that centres around the default mode network (DMN) which is typically quiet or turned off as more focused attention takes place in the pre-frontal cortex.  Some techniques used in hypnosis actually turn on the DMN.

Perhaps the most succinct definition of hypnosis coined by Philip H. Farber and backed by brain-imaging studies is:  “Hypnosis is a set of techniques for switching brain modes from attention to introspection and back again, at will, and it may be that act of switching back and forth that helps to reconsolidate change into our brains.”  The Journal of Hypnotism, Vol.29, p56.
